The GWR King Class ...

The King Class, designed by CBCollett, was introduced in 1927. The regional railway companies were very aware of their image and actively tried to win the advertising war against their competitors. The introduction of the King class, with its 40,000 pound pull, allowed the GWR to once again proclaim that it owned the most powerful locomotives in the UK. During development, Chief Mechanical Engineer Collett requested an increase in the axle load limit from 20 to 22.5 tons. This was approved and the strengthening of the bridges along the West of England route began. The weight of the King initially limited him to only three routes: Paddington / Plymouth, Paddington / Bristol and Paddington / Birmingham. Further routes were added during the BR period. Until their retirement in 1962, the Kings were always at the forefront of the most prestigious trains. They wore a variety of colors including GWR green, BR blue, and BR green with lines.

The model...

By the time the King is shipped, we will have manufactured over 600 5 "gauge models. This experience is your guarantee of quality.

A 4-cylinder live steam locomotive in 5 "gauge will never be cheap. At a price of around € 15,000 VAT, however, the model offers excellent value for money. You will hardly find a used model which was built by a private builder for less than double the price we charge for a brand new King Class. The model is fully warranted and comes with a 24 month warranty, whether you collect and display your models or whether you want to drive it, the King Class is for you - it's a handsome display model and capable of pulling significant loads on your local club track.

The model is supplied complete with a silver-soldered copper tank that has been hydraulically tested for double the operating pressure. All boilers are provided with the CE mark and supplied with a certificate from the manufacturer that the boiler has been tested. As proof of our trust in the models, we offer a full 24-month guarantee on every product. We currently have sufficient factory capacity to manufacture 25 models.
