BR Britannia class
Designed by RA Riddles and introduced in 1951, the Britannia class was British Railways' first standard design. A total of 55 locomotives of this class were built at the Crewe works, with the last locomotive entering service in 1954. With only two outer cylinders, she was a design designed for easy maintenance. Despite this, the locomotive had a handsome and well-proportioned design. She was a real favorite among railroad enthusiasts. With its 74 inch driving wheels it was a typical passenger locomotive, at home at high speed at the head of a long line of Mk 1 carriages. The locomotives were used in all regions and remained in service until the end of the British steam locomotive era, with 70013 Oliver Cromwell hauling the last scheduled passenger train in 1968.
The model in 3.5" gauge
The model of the Britannia class is built to an almost exact scale of 1:16. The beautifully detailed model is designed to operate on 3.5" gauge track and is coal fired.
Each model comes complete with a silver-soldered copper shell that has been hydraulically tested to twice the working pressure. We supply fully compliant certificates for the boiler. As a testament to our confidence in the models we supply, we offer a full 24 month guarantee on every product.
Completion is scheduled for May/June 2022.
